What’s With The Episcopal Church?

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

Cal Thomas has some very cogent remarks about the recent US Episcopal Church refusing to disavow ordination of openly, practicing homosexual bishops.

Read the article, then let me know what you think. Biblically, we’re commanded to love everyone, but we’re also commanded to repent of our sin (including practicing homosexuality).

Homosexuality is one of the sins that is clearly identified as sin. The old addage, “Hate the sin, love the sinner,” applies.

Hooray for the Hampton Inn

Friday, June 9th, 2006

We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Chattanooga last night. About 6:30am I got up to relieve myself and while I was standing there, I felt dripping on my head. (I knew it wasn’t me). As we were not getting up for an hour and a half, I moved the trash can under the leak and went back to bed. Upon checkout, I told the desk manager what had happened and that we weren’t 100% pleased with the situation. Not only did she apologize for our trouble, but consistent with the Hampton Inn promise, the stay was FREE, including the breakfast we had eaten. (more…)

Enroute

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

We’re at the Hampton Inn in Chatanooga, TN, enroute to Indianapolis to see our progeny and touch base with some old friends. We had dinner at the Big River Grille and & Brewing Works. The food is always great and the beer is delicious.

This weekend, David, my son, and I will be going on a golf retreat. Two days of golf, some great worship and deviotion time, and good fellowship. Should be cool.

The rest of the week we’ll hang out with the offspring and visit friends. If I feel motivated, maybe I’ll post something.

Hillary Protests Cut in Grant

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

Washington, D.C. Associated Press

Senator Hillary Clinton and Rep. Pete King launched a protest over the government’s decision to cut anti-terror grant money to New York City by 40 percent this year.

They’re irate that as part of the funding cut, the Department of Homeland Security determined the city has no national monuments or icons.

They have been sending post-cards addressed to Homeland Security Secretay Michael Chertoff from places like the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge. They’re posted on Clinton’s Web Site to encourage citizens to send cards, too.

Why don’t they just use the 4 billion dollars that are ripped off from New York’s Medicaid program every year?

USS Oriskany (CVA-34)

Originally uploaded by MajorMike.
On May 17, 2006, the USS Oriskany, an aircraft carrier on which I served from 1974 to 1976, was sunk off the coast of Pensacola, FL, in about 200 ft of water. It’s to be the largest man-made reef in the world. Divers are already swarming over it taking photos and videos.

I served in the Combat Information Center and as one of the COD (Carrier Onboard Delivery) pilots, flying the Grumman C-1 Trader. My final duties were to help mothball the ship as it retired.

Now 30 years later, she’s out of mothballs and into the deep.

Gay Marriage In the Constitution

Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

I consider myself a conservative in spite of all the surveys I’ve taken that call me a centrist.

Maybe I am. The news now reports that President Bush is following the conservative wing of the Republican party by endorsing the constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. (more…)
