Here are a few links about this Easter.

  • Article by Gerard Baker is one of the most cogent relating to our current culture.
  • John Crane of The Daily Detour wonders where the passion for the “Passion” went.

Surprise
Apr 6th, 2007 by Mike

I changed the theme of Major Mike’s Musings from P3Orion (a theme I created) to Tiga by Shamsul Azhar. I hope you like it. I needed a little more territory on the sidebars, so I went with a three column layout. I hope you like it.

Generation Me
Apr 6th, 2007 by Mike

I found an interesting article in the Ivy Jungle Campus Ministry Update. They quote from an AP article of February 27, 2007:

All that positive self esteem teaching has sunk in among today’s college students. A study by a group of psychologists shows that college students today exhibit a higher level of narcissism and self-centeredness than those who have gone before them. The Narcissistic Personality Inventory has now been used by this group of researchers for more than 25 years. While the current students have a much higher self esteem, they also show tendencies to have romantic relationships that are “short lived, at risk for infidelity, and lack emotional warmth”, one of several indicators exhibited that show a high degree of narcissism. Lead researcher Jean Twenge has published her findings in “Generation Me: Why Today’s Young Americans Are More Confident, Assertive, Entitled – and More Miserable Than Ever.” She has also stated that today’s technology – such as MySpace and YouTube only fuel this unhealthy narcissism.

Poor kids. Explains a lot.

Olive Bailey Langdon

Here’s my first daylilly of the season. She’s Olive Bailey Langdon blooming two weeks earlier than last year. It was the first last year too, on April the 14th, but this year bloomed on the 3rd. Oh joy!

Back
Apr 2nd, 2007 by Mike

Yes, we’re back from vacation. Weird calling a trip to the beach with friends a vacation when we’re already on an extended vacation in The Villages. The trip was a huge success. We relaxed, caught up with our friends, and I got to play with my friend Hannah, their 8 year old daughter.

This afternoon we went to see an orthopaedic surgeon for Mrs. Major’s knee. We were pretty much expecting that they would recommend knee replacement. But she was offered cortisone therapy. So she took it. We’re praying it works.

I encourage you to take a trip over to The Daily Detour. He’s a minister at a church in Indianapolis and has a great Christian perspective in timely issues. The above link is to an article titled “The Tragic Necessity of Violence,” and is required reading for anyone in the military, for anyone with a relative or friend in the military, and for Christians. It’s recommended reading for all others. Check out some of his other articles.
