Havers has lost her sergeant’s stripe, Lindley is acting Superintendent, and Helen Lindley is a month from birth. Winston has been made sergeant in Havers’ place. When the fourth murder of early teen boys is discovered, all hell breaks loose. The first three were ethnic minorities, and Scotland Yard isn’t called in until the fourth one. Hillier, the big boss, insists Winston be at his side for all the news conferences and insists on embedding a reporter into the investigation. Both orders lead to the impairment of the investigation and to tragedy for Lindley.
