DI John Rebus and DC Siobhan Clark investigate the murder of an immigrant in the Knoxland area of Edinburg. When two skeletons are dug up during the renovation of a pub, Siobhan takes an interest. The sister of a girl that was raped and subsequently committed suicide as taken a runner and her parents ask Siobhan to look into it. When the recently released rapist is murdered, Siobhan and Rebus dig deeper.
The story winds around the immigrant community and elucidates the complexities of both sides of Scotland’s immigrant issues.
